Countdown has started!

Its 1AM in the morning of the day I'm supposed to leave for a vacation (to Lebanon) I've been looking forward to for almost a year.

My flight is at 6:25 pm this evening and that means that I have more 12 hours to leave the town I live in heading to the airport. It would take almost 3 hours by train to get there. I'm still awake and its almost time I go to bed and have some rest for the big day. I couldn't get to bed earlier because I had to make sure I left a clean house behind and also check to see if I got everything I needed in my Suitcase. I've just finished cleaning the entire house and double checked everything that needs to be checked. At least I hope I didn't miss anything. I wrote everything that I won't want to forget on a paper last week and have gone through it and checked every single item.

I'll be sleeping in tomorrow as I have enough time. I setting my alarm at 10AM and after I wake up, I will then shave my beard, take a shower, have breakfast and them check my emails, say goodbye to some of my friends on the Internet and also say goodbye to my girlfriend who's also on vacation in Cyprus.

I'm really looking forward to this vacation because I will be meeting some of my friends whom I haven't seen for like 10 years. I'm also seeing my family once again. I saw them for the very first time in 10 years last summer, but couldn't stay a long time. I'm hoping to stay much longer this time.

I hope to arrive safely and have a pleasant vacation. I will be keeping you guys up to date. So, keep a keen eye on this page..

A parade and a fundraising event

|
Even though I've been busy preparing for my vacation, I always made sure I had some time for photography. Photography is also my escape route from stress.

For the past 2 months, I have been taking photos close to home and last week I decided to go to a nearby city and try my luck there. I'm happy I did, because the Red Cross were having a fundraising event there. At first I didn't know what was happening and I was like hesitating to take photos of people and only started taking photos of people that gave me permission. I noticed that people were willing to cooperate even without knowing who I was.

An hour later, a girl walked towards me and asked if she could get the pictures I was taking. She happened to be the organizer of the fund raising event. I was happy she did, because that gave me more authority to take random photos, claiming that I was doing that as a project for the course. It really helped because at the end of the day I had about 500 shots already. I gave her my business card and ask her to send me an email. Unfortunately, I have not heard from her yet.

The event was full of fun and had lots of interesting things to take photos of. It was very challenging for me as an amateur photographer and I was ready to go for it. Non moving objects were not much of a problem, but moving objects were a real challenge. The combination of moving objects and cloudy weather made it more difficult, but luckily I managed to pull off some good shots.

2 days later I witnessed another event, this time it was and event in our city. Every year an organization organizes a 4 day walking spree for little children under the age of 12. Every evening for 4 days, they match through a planned route from point A to B. A 2 kilometers distance, I guess.

It happened that this was the 65th time that this particular event had taken place and so they added another day to it and organized a parade. There were about 10 different groups and thousands of children supported by there parents or a family member.

It was very interesting to see and to go through. I managed to capture a lot of those important moments in the lives of those who took part and tried to capture the essence of that particular event. I don't know if I did, but it was what I intended to do. Because to be true, capturing the essence is what makes a photographer stands out amongst other photographer.

Soon to lebanon!

I've been very busy lately preparing myself for my summer vacation. Normally, there's not much of preparation needed because my girlfriend stays back home when I'm on a long vacation. We try not to go on a long vacation together because someone has to earn some money ;).

This time round, things are different. My girlfriend has gone to visit her brother and his family in Cyprus and will be joining me in Lebanon on July 1st. She will be with me till the end of July and then go back to Cyprus till end of August. I will be staying in Lebanon for 3 whole months. Normally I would only stay a month, but I decided this year to stay longer, because I don't have any job at this moment and I have missed my family a lot. I'll also be seeing lot of my friends that I haven't seen for like 10 years.

As I said earlier, I've been busy lately and lots of things had to be done. First of all I had to find someone that was willing to move into our house till we're back. That is solved, my nephew is moving in with his girlfriend. I also had to arrange how the bills are paid and that too has been solved, by giving the companies to automatically draw the bills from my bank credit at the beginning of every month. I also got a new insurance that will cover me in another country. I have also bought gifts I'm taking with me and bought my Grandma a "Walker", she can't walk alone but doesn't allow any one to help her and she prefers to walk on all four. So, I'm hoping to surprise her with the Walker and hope it will be of great help to her.

I'm now going to trim my hair and pack my bag and then relax till next week, cause that is when I'm leaving. I hope to blog from Lebanon, but not quite sure about that.

Some things are mean't to be

I was at home not feeling quite too well. I've been watching TV, reading blogs and news on the Internet, exercising a little bit to keep me fit. I had totally no intention to go out and just wanted to stay at home and relax.

It was almost 5 pm and I started feeling hungry, that was when I decided to make my self some Kerry sauce with white rice. I went to the kitchen, peeled some onions, chopped some paprika and mushrooms. I started frying them and went in to my kitchen closet to grab the Kerry mix. To my surprise, there was not a single sachet left. That has happened before, and most of the time, I would just replace it with something else and that was exactly what I wanted to do. But I have been thinking of making this particular dish for some days now and so I started doubting if I should go ahead cooking something else or go to the Super Market. I looked at the clock and noticed that it was 5:15pm and I had 45 minutes to make up my mind. Something inside me said I should go to the Super Market and by the ingredients I need and also some Ice Tea on my way back.

I got dressed, took my bag and headed towards the Super Market. On arrival, just at the section where the carriages are, I noticed something on the floor. It was a 20 euro bill, a guy was walking in front of me. I saw him look down at the bill and he looked as if he doubted for a moment, because he headed towards where the money was and then moved to the other direction. I immediately rushed and grabbed the 20 euro making sure no one else took it. There was totally no one around it, so I decided not to ask for whom it was.

You might say why I didn't ask, well its not the very first time I find some thing. I once found a 10 euro bill in this same Super Market and brought it to the owner of the Super Market. She told me that she knew for whom it was. And pointed to a woman on her computer screen. I happened to know the woman, and came across her the next day. I told her about the money and we went together to the Super Market to collect the money. The manager claimed to have given the money to someone else. So, there was very little we could do, but for me, it was the end of playing the good guy.

I keep what I find, as long as no one is around the area where I find it.
